Robust electronics for communication and automotive

Technical ceramics are often used in microelectronics when the component to be manufactured is exposed to high stresses such as temperature fluctuations. In order to meet the technical requirements in the fields of telecommunications, sensor technology or automobiles, many different ceramic layers often have to be bonded together with imprinted metal structures ("multilayer technology"). Due to the complex interactions between the materials in the numerous manufacturing steps, the development of innovative component concepts requires time-consuming and cost-intensive experimental test series.

The aim of the project is to make expert knowledge available to engineers and developers in order to accelerate material adaptations and component developments in the future. To this end, an expandable ontology for ceramic multilayer technology is being developed, which automatically links material-related and technological data with simulations and can be evaluated for engineering questions. As case studies, two sophisticated designs from the powder to the component will be experimentally realised and simulated. The relevant data will be recorded continuously, and interrelationships and decision scenarios will be mapped in the form of an ontology for the first time. The project results will be available to companies in the ceramics industry in order to quickly bring future product developments, for example in the field of energy technology, to market maturity and thus enable the earliest possible market entry.
